£5.1m Glengormley town centre improvement scheme goes out to tender

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has launched a £5.1m tender for the Glengormley Environmental Improvement Scheme, aimed at transforming the town centre through major public realm and highway improvements.
The project will focus on Antrim Road and Ballyclare Road, delivering a programme of works designed to improve the public realm, enhance pedestrian access and support local businesses.
The successful contractor will carry out the excavation and reconstruction of existing footways and carriageways, install approximately 6,500m² of natural stone paving and kerbing, undertake 12,000m² of carriageway resurfacing, and deliver new landscaping, tree planting, drainage, street furniture and civic spaces.
The scheme will also include new pedestrian gateway features, event infrastructure and utility works, while high-quality street lighting will be delivered separately by the Department for Infrastructure.
The contract is expected to commence in February 2027 and complete by July 2029.
Suppliers have until 18 August 2026 to submit requests to participate, with up to six contractors expected to be shortlisted for the tender stage.
