Willmott Dixon has been appointed by the Department for Education to deliver a £61m redevelopment of The Mosslands School in Wallasey.
The project will see the creation of a new, state-of-the-art secondary school designed to accommodate up to 1,500 pupils, replacing the existing buildings on the 19-acre site once complete.
Designed by Ellis Williams Architects, the scheme includes a three-storey teaching facility focused on delivering modern, flexible learning environments — with a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM).
Alongside the main school building, the development will deliver a range of upgraded external facilities, including:
two sports halls
a new all-weather pitch
multi-use games areas
improved parking and cycle provision
The project also aligns with wider sustainability targets, with the new campus designed to achieve Net Zero Carbon in Operation (NZCIO) through the use of:
photovoltaic panels
air source heat pumps
ground source heat pumps
Construction is expected to complete in 2028, creating a long-term education asset for both students and the wider Wallasey community.

In addition to the physical build, the project will deliver social value outcomes across the region, including support for T-Level students, apprenticeship opportunities, and engagement with local community initiatives.
The scheme was secured via the DfE Construction Framework and continues Willmott Dixon’s strong presence in the education sector, with significant project delivery across the UK.
