A revised construction programme has been confirmed for the redevelopment of Vitality Stadium, with works re-sequenced following an expected planning committee decision later in May.
The original schedule would have allowed for the immediate construction of a new South Stand lower tier and corner infills, delivering an estimated 1,500-seat capacity increase ahead of the 2026/27 season.
However, due to the updated planning timeline, the Club has opted to restructure the delivery programme, prioritising buildability, compliance, operational continuity and safety.
Enabling works to take priority
The revised approach will see a focus on key enabling works critical to the long-term redevelopment strategy. These include:
Establishment of a permanent outside broadcast (OB) compound and supporting infrastructure
Service diversions, including utilities and associated systems
Pedestrian and cycle route diversions to maintain safe access
Installation of new perimeter fencing and turnstile arrangements
Delivery of West Stand wing extensions
Alongside this, internal upgrades will also be progressed, including enhancements to hospitality facilities across both the West and East Stands.
Capacity increase scaled back in short term
As part of the re-sequenced programme, the Club will now proceed with the construction of two corner infills at the North-West and South-East sections of the stadium.
This will deliver an estimated additional 800 seats, expected shortly after the start of the 2026/27 season—lower than the originally projected 1,500-seat increase.
South Stand works delayed
The existing South Stand will remain in place for the 2026/27 season under the revised phasing strategy.
Current plans include:
Commencement of the South Stand upper tier during the 2026/27 season (subject to planning approval)
Delivery of the South Stand lower tier following the conclusion of the 2026/27 season
This phased approach is designed to align with operational requirements and minimise disruption to fixtures, while maintaining compliance with league standards.
Long-term redevelopment remains on track
Despite the short-term adjustments, the wider stadium expansion programme remains in place, including further works to the East and North Stands and additional corner infills beyond the 2026/27 season.
The programme remains subject to planning approval and construction timelines, with the Club continuing to work alongside key stakeholders to deliver the scheme in a structured and phased manner.
