Peel Waters secures approvals to unlock £1.7m investment at Wirral Waters

Peel Waters has secured two key planning approvals from Wirral Council, marking a major step forward in the next phase of development at Mea Park West within the wider Wirral Waters regeneration scheme.

The approvals unlock £1.7m of investment and include the refurbishment of the 42,000 sq ft Mobil building alongside a significant extension to the Greenway public realm project.

The £1.2m transformation of the Mobil building will see the former industrial facility repurposed into modern employment space, while retaining its industrial character. Works are set to begin in spring 2026 and will include structural upgrades, roof replacement and improved thermal performance through over-cladding.

The wider phase of development at Mea Park West is expected to deliver over 171,000 sq ft of employment space, creating more than 200 jobs and supporting investment into the Freeport site.

Alongside the building works, the approved Greenway extension will enhance connectivity, providing new pedestrian and cycle routes linking the site to Birkenhead North station. The scheme will also introduce new landscaping, tree planting and biodiversity improvements, delivering over 22% biodiversity net gain.

The Greenway forms part of a wider sustainable transport strategy, improving access for workers, visitors and the local community while supporting long-term regeneration ambitions across the Wirral Waters site.

The approvals represent a key milestone in unlocking further development and investment across one of the UK’s largest waterfront regeneration projects.
