Northern Trains begins market engagement for £300m stations and depots framework

Northern Trains has launched early market engagement ahead of a planned £300 million framework covering stations and depot projects across its network.

Although formal procurement is not expected until 2027, the engagement gives contractors, consultants and specialist suppliers an early opportunity to prepare for one of the rail sector’s largest upcoming frameworks.

The programme is expected to support a wide range of works across Northern’s estate, including station improvements, depot upgrades, refurbishment, maintenance and wider infrastructure projects.

By engaging the market well in advance, Northern Trains is giving potential bidders time to build partnerships, review delivery capability and position themselves ahead of the formal tender process.

For construction businesses targeting the rail sector, early engagement can be critical.

Frameworks of this scale are often highly competitive, making advance planning, supply chain collaboration and framework readiness essential before procurement officially begins.

Further details on the framework scope and procurement timetable are expected ahead of the tender launch next year.
