National Grid’s £1.2bn overhead transmission upgrade programme continues to progress, with major delivery partners advancing work to strengthen the UK’s electricity network and support the transition to a low-carbon energy system.
The long-term programme will see around 1,000km of overhead transmission infrastructure upgraded across the UK, increasing network capacity to connect renewable energy projects and improve energy security.
Major contractors including Balfour Beatty, Murphy, Morgan Sindall Group and M Group are among the delivery partners supporting the programme, which is expected to generate work across multiple regions over the coming years.

Alongside the principal construction contracts, the programme is expected to create opportunities throughout the supply chain, particularly for businesses specialising in:
Civil engineering
High-voltage electrical works
Temporary works
Plant and equipment hire
Environmental and ecological services
Ground investigations and surveys
Traffic management
Steelwork and foundations
With significant investment planned across the UK’s electricity transmission network over the next decade, National Grid’s programme remains one of the country’s most important long-term infrastructure pipelines, offering ongoing opportunities for contractors, subcontractors and specialist suppliers.
