Mace Construct lands contract to redevelop former London City Hall

Mace Construct has secured the contract to redevelop London’s former City Hall at More London, with St Martin’s Property Group appointing the contractor to transform the landmark riverside building into a modern workplace.

Construction is due to begin this month at 110 Queen’s Walk, where the refurbishment will increase the building’s floorspace from 18,000 sq m to 22,000 sq m while retaining its distinctive circular design overlooking the River Thames.

Originally delivered by Mace in 2002 as part of the wider More London development, the building will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment designed to bring the vacant asset back into use while preserving its iconic appearance.

The project includes:

  • Full replacement of the existing cladding and glazing

  • New external terraces and roofscape improvements

  • Infilling of the central atrium

  • Shell and core fit-out with new MEP systems

  • New end-of-trip facilities

  • Public realm enhancements around The Scoop amphitheatre, surrounding green space and Queen’s Walk

The redevelopment forms part of St Martin’s Property Group’s plans to reposition the former City Hall building as flexible commercial space while retaining one of London’s best-known riverside landmarks.

Ged Simmonds, Managing Director for Private Sector at Mace Construct, said the project would build on the site’s legacy while delivering a sustainable workplace designed to meet the needs of modern occupiers.
