Liverpool Local Plan targets more than 33,500 new homes by 2043

Liverpool City Council is set to publish its proposed new Local Plan, outlining a strategy to deliver at least 33,552 new homes by 2043 while supporting regeneration and economic growth across the city.

The proposed Liverpool Local Plan to 2043 sets out where future housing and commercial development should take place, providing the planning framework that will guide development decisions across the city once adopted.

The plan identifies a minimum requirement for 33,552 new homes over the next 17 years, with the council aiming to exceed the Government’s housing target. It also seeks to increase the supply of affordable, sustainable and high-quality homes.

Growth will be focused on previously developed brownfield land, with key regeneration areas including North Liverpool, North Docks, Ten Streets, Pumpfields and Limekilns, and Festival Gardens identified for future development.

Alongside new housing, the Local Plan requires supporting infrastructure such as schools, healthcare facilities, transport links and green spaces to help create sustainable communities.

If approved, the Local Plan will become the primary basis for determining planning applications across Liverpool, providing greater certainty for residents, developers and investors.
