Krol Corlett has been appointed by North Northamptonshire Council to deliver a £1.5 million refurbishment project in Corby.
The scheme will revitalise vacant space within a multi-storey office building and adjoining café, transforming it into a flexible, modern environment suitable for a mix of office and community uses.
🏗️ Project scope
The works will focus on upgrading both ground and first floor areas, with a full internal refurbishment programme including:
Reconfiguration of existing layouts
Upgrades to internal finishes
Integration of modern building services
Creation of adaptable, multi-use spaces
Once complete, the development is expected to provide a high-quality, future-ready facility designed to support collaboration, flexible working, and community engagement.
🏢 Bringing vacant space back into use
The building has remained unused for a number of years, with pre-construction surveys already undertaken to assess key risks including asbestos and building services.
Delivery of the project will require careful coordination to ensure safe access and minimal disruption to surrounding users throughout the construction phase.
🤝 Project team
Design services for the scheme are being delivered by Wayman Architects, working alongside the contractor and client team to support design development and delivery.
📊 Social value focus
A key element of the project is its commitment to local economic impact.
The delivery strategy includes:
Engagement of local subcontractors
Use of regional labour
Appointment of locally based project management
This approach is intended to support employment opportunities and strengthen supply chains within the Corby area.
📍 Sector insight
Refurbishment-led schemes like this continue to play an important role in bringing underutilised buildings back into productive use, particularly within town centres and community settings.
The Corby project reflects a wider trend towards flexible, multi-use spaces that can adapt to changing workplace and community needs.
