Gobion Secures £52m London Gateway Expansion Contract

Gobion Construction has landed a £52 million contract to deliver a major container yard expansion at London Gateway Port, supporting the port’s continued growth.


The project, awarded by DP World, will see the construction of a new automated container yard at Berth 5, significantly increasing capacity at the deep-sea port.

• 📅 Start: End of March 2026

• 🎯 Completion: March 2027

• 🤖 10 automated stacking crane modules to be installed


Scope of Works

The scheme includes:

• Heavy-duty pavements using high energy impact compaction

• Crane rails and foundations

• Reefer and container plinths

• Substations, drainage, and utilities integration

• Full electrical systems, including 11kV power supply, switchgear and SCADA systems

• Site-wide lighting infrastructure


Strategic Importance

This marks Gobion’s largest project to date at London Gateway and forms part of DP World’s wider expansion strategy to increase capacity and efficiency at one of the UK’s key logistics hubs.


With automation and infrastructure upgrades at its core, the project reflects the ongoing evolution of port and logistics construction across the UK.
