Contract Award: External CCTV Upgrade at HM Prison Lewes

A significant security improvement project has been confirmed at HM Prison Lewes following the award of a multi-million-pound contract for a full external CCTV upgrade.
The project, commissioned by HM Prison and Probation Service, will see the delivery of a comprehensive new CCTV system across the prison estate. The works include the design, installation, commissioning and handover of an upgraded external surveillance system to improve site security, monitoring capability and operational resilience.
The contract has been awarded to Wates Construction, who will deliver the works under a two-stage design and build arrangement.
Project Scope
The programme will include:
Full external CCTV replacement and upgrade across the estate
Detailed pre-construction surveys and design development
Installation, testing, and commissioning of new security systems
Integration with existing infrastructure to support improved monitoring capability
Contract Details
Total contract value: approximately £3.15 million
Delivery period: March 2026 – March 2029
Procurement route: Call-off under an existing framework agreement
Delivery model: Two-stage design and build
The investment forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise custodial facilities and improve safety and security across the estate.
