GMI set to secure £21m Nuneaton library and business centre contract

GMI Construction is set to secure a £21m contract to design and build a new library and business centre in Nuneaton for Warwickshire County Council.

The Leeds-based contractor was selected ahead of Clegg Construction, McLaren Construction and McPhillips (Wellington) for the scheme, which forms a key part of the wider Transforming Nuneaton regeneration programme.

The project will redevelop the former Royal Mail Delivery Office site into a new civic and commercial hub designed to increase town centre footfall and support local businesses.

GMI will take responsibility for completing the remaining design and delivering the construction works.

Mace Consult will remain on the scheme as project manager, contract administrator and cost manager through RIBA Stages 5 to 7.

Subject to completion of the standstill period, construction is expected to begin on 21 August 2026 and run until 31 December 2027.
