Glencar appointed for next phase of £1bn Brent Cross data centre campus

Glencar has been appointed by Pure Data Centres to deliver the next major phase of the Brent Cross data centre campus in North London.

The latest expansion package will increase the hyperscale campus capacity to 90MW through the delivery of a new 70MW facility known as LON1B2.

The wider Brent Cross campus is understood to represent a development value exceeding £1bn, with completion of the latest phase targeted for Q2 2029.

Project overview

The new LON1B2 facility will extend to approximately 23,000 sq m and follows the delivery of the existing operational 20MW Building 1 already located on site.

Glencar’s scope includes:

  • piling and foundations

  • structural frame works

  • concrete and slab construction

  • staircore installation

  • roofing and envelope packages

  • integration works with adjacent live phases

The project is being delivered within a live operational campus environment, with concurrent construction activity continuing across multiple active zones.

Sustainability and environmental features

A key feature of the development will be a large-scale living wall system spanning approximately 7,400 sq m across the building façade.

The installation is expected to incorporate more than 750,000 plants, supporting:

  • biodiversity enhancement

  • noise reduction

  • air quality improvements

  • environmental integration with the nearby Brent Reservoir SSSI

The project reflects growing emphasis on sustainability and environmental performance within major UK data centre developments.

ConstructNet Intelligence Overview

The continued expansion of hyperscale data centre infrastructure across London and the South East remains a major growth area within the UK construction market.

Projects of this scale are typically expected to generate substantial phased opportunities across:

  • piling and ground engineering

  • steel frame and structural works

  • M&E and specialist power infrastructure

  • roofing and cladding systems

  • concrete frame and civils packages

  • cooling and HVAC infrastructure

  • security and access systems

  • landscaping and environmental works

  • logistics and temporary works support

The live operational nature of the campus also highlights increasing demand for contractors capable of delivering technically complex projects within active environments.

As demand for AI, cloud computing and digital infrastructure continues accelerating, hyperscale data centres remain one of the most active long-term sectors across UK commercial construction.
