Contract Award: A259 Realignment and Exceat Bridge Replacement

East Sussex County Council has awarded a £10.8m contract for the realignment of the A259 and replacement of the Exceat Bridge.


The contract has been secured by Jackson Civil Engineering Group Limited, following procurement through the Hampshire Regional Civil Engineering, Highways and Transportation Framework.


Scope of Works


The project will involve:


  • Realignment of the A259 in both directions

  • Replacement of the existing Exceat Bridge with a new two-way structure

  • Associated landscaping and environmental improvements


Procurement and Programme


The scheme was procured via the HANTSGEN5 Framework (Lot 3) and will be delivered under an NEC4 Option C (target cost) contract.


  • Contract award date: 12 February 2026

  • Start date: 4 February 2026

  • Estimated completion: 3 March 2028

  • Contract value: £10,827,634.99


Project Overview


The works are expected to improve connectivity, safety and resilience along the A259, a key coastal route, while upgrading infrastructure at the Exceat crossing.
