Citizen has completed a £2.1 million refurbishment of the Grade II-listed-style post-war maisonettes at Jardine Crescent in Coventry, improving energy efficiency while preserving one of the city’s most significant architectural landmarks.
Delivered by Equans, the retrofit project was supported by £400,000 of funding through the Matrix Housing Partnership and the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Wave 3 retrofit programme.
Originally designed by renowned Coventry architect Arthur Ling, the Tile Hill maisonettes are recognised by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for their architectural significance as part of the city’s post-war reconstruction.

The refurbishment focused on improving the performance of the homes while carefully retaining the buildings’ distinctive design. Energy efficiency measures have reduced heat loss, improved comfort for residents and lowered carbon emissions without compromising the original character of the development.
The scheme forms part of wider efforts to modernise existing social housing stock, helping residents benefit from warmer homes and lower energy bills while extending the life of historically important buildings.
Equans said the project demonstrated how existing housing can be successfully adapted to meet modern living standards while preserving its heritage value.
