Caddick Construction has been awarded a £25 million design and build contract to deliver a new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Durham, further strengthening its presence in the North East.
The project will see Caddick deliver the 232-bed Melbury Court development off Old Dryburn Way on behalf of Whitesmocks Limited.
Meeting Growing Student Demand
The scheme will provide modern, purpose-built living spaces designed to meet increasing demand for student accommodation in Durham, supporting the city’s expanding higher education sector.
Alongside residential units, the development will include landscaping works to enhance the surrounding environment and create a more accessible and attractive setting.
Programme and Regional Growth
Construction is scheduled for completion in summer 2027, ahead of the 2027/28 academic year.
The contract builds on Caddick’s growing footprint in the region, following the launch of its Durham office last year and recent project delivery, including a BREEAM Excellent distribution centre for DPD in Newton Aycliffe.
Social Value and Community Impact
As part of the project, Caddick will deliver a tailored employment and skills plan, including:
Local training and job opportunities
Engagement with schools and educators
Support for community initiatives through volunteering and fundraising
The scheme reflects continued investment in both student infrastructure and regional economic growth, while reinforcing Caddick’s commitment to delivering high-quality, community-focused developments.
