Caddick appointed to build Newcastle self-storage facility

Caddick Construction has been appointed principal contractor to design and build a new Big Yellow Self Storage facility on Scotswood Road in Newcastle.

The development will provide 60,000 sq ft of internal storage space across four floors, alongside customer loading bays, offices, reception space and staff welfare facilities.

External works will include new car parking, landscaping and the installation of roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels and battery storage.

The facility is being designed to achieve BREEAM Very Good and is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.

The contract adds to Caddick Construction’s growing North East workload following the opening of its Durham office in 2025. The contractor has secured around £127m of regional projects during its first year operating from the new base.

The scheme also expands Caddick’s industrial portfolio, which includes Richardson Barberry’s new DPD parcel hub at Newton Aycliffe.
