Blount Street PBSA receives Gateway 2 approval ahead of construction

A purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Limehouse has secured Building Safety Act Gateway 2 approval, clearing the way for construction to begin.

The Blount Street development, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, will deliver 111 student bedrooms alongside extensive amenity space and community-focused incubator facilities.

DMWR Architects confirmed the project has successfully passed the Building Safety Act’s Gateway 2 process for higher-risk buildings, allowing the scheme to progress to site.

The architect said its Architecture and Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) teams guided the project through the regulatory approval process, helping the development satisfy the requirements introduced under the Building Safety Act.

Southern Grove Real Estate is delivering the scheme, with Boom Construction (UK) appointed as contractor. The wider project team includes Ingleton Wood, Ashton Fire, Acoustics Central, eb7, Newsteer Real Estate Advisers, BCC Consultancy, Neil Tully Associates and NSP.

DMWR Architects said the approval takes its total number of Gateway 2 approvals to nine, with several further applications expected to be determined in the coming months.
