Balfour Beatty has launched a live subcontract procurement opportunity for sheet pile wall works as part of the Roads North section of the Lower Thames Crossing programme.

The tender package relates to the design, supply and installation of permanent and temporary sheet pile wall systems across the major infrastructure scheme connecting Essex and Kent beneath the River Thames.

The opportunity has been released under procurement reference RNT-LTC-SHP-01 and is currently open to expressions of interest from qualified subcontractors and specialist delivery partners.

The package carries an estimated contract value of approximately £1.5m and is expected to run between November 2026 and November 2027.

Works will include:

  • cofferdam installation

  • temporary works design and approvals

  • interface coordination with structures, drainage and earthworks packages

  • production of QA documentation and handover records

Balfour Beatty is seeking subcontractors with

demonstrable experience delivering sheet piling and retaining wall packages on major highways and infrastructure projects, alongside strong environmental, quality and temporary works management capabilities.

The contractor has also reinforced that successful suppliers will need to align with the Lower Thames Crossing programme’s wider sustainability and social value ambitions, including commitments around zero-emission construction activity, workforce upskilling and local employment engagement.

The Lower Thames Crossing remains one of the UK’s largest live infrastructure programmes and continues to generate significant supply chain procurement activity across civils, structures, utilities and specialist construction packages.

Expressions of interest are currently open, with submissions due by 28 May 2026 at 12pm.
