Transport for Wales has launched the procurement for the £33m redevelopment of Caerphilly Interchange, seeking a design and build contractor to deliver a new multi-modal transport hub as part of the South Wales Metro programme.
The project will transform Caerphilly railway station and the adjoining bus interchange into a modern transport hub, improving connections between rail, bus, taxi and active travel while supporting wider regeneration across the town.
The successful contractor will be responsible for the demolition of existing infrastructure and the design and construction of the new interchange.
The scheme will also include enhanced passenger facilities, retail space and public realm improvements.

Estimated to be worth £33m, the contract is expected to run from March 2027 until March 2030, with the option to extend to allow completion of the works.
Transport for Wales is procuring the scheme through a two-stage competitive flexible procedure. Following the Request to Participate stage, the five highest-scoring suppliers will be shortlisted and invited to submit full tenders later this year.
The interchange forms a key part of the South Wales Metro programme and is intended to improve accessibility, encourage sustainable travel and support economic growth across the Cardiff Capital Region.
The deadline for supplier enquiries is 19 August 2026, while requests to participate must be submitted by 26 August 2026. Transport for Wales expects to award the contract in February 2027.
