Construction has officially commenced on a new care home development at Catherine Grove in Deal, Kent, marking the latest project by Boutique Care Homes.
Set to open in late 2027, the scheme will deliver 83 en suite bedrooms alongside seven retirement bungalows, creating a high-quality care environment within a woodland setting of more than 250 mature trees. Located just a 10-minute walk from Deal High Street, the development will also feature a range of amenities including a bistro, hobby room, family lounge and a lawn bowling green.
The project is being delivered by Apex Construction, with design by RM Design Group. Once complete, the development is expected to create over 80 full-time jobs while providing residential care, specialist dementia services and short-stay accommodation.
The name “Catherine Grove” pays tribute to the site’s historic roots. Catherine Boys founded the Deal Orphanage on the site in 1870, with the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions continuing her work in caring for children and the local community.
A groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction, attended by members of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, former convent staff, community representatives and project partners.
Tom Duck, Development Director at Boutique Care Homes, said the project represents more than just a new build: it continues a long-standing legacy of care associated with the site, while introducing a modern, person-centred approach to care and wellbeing.
Dan Hollis, Managing Director at Apex Construction, added that the development will play an important role in supporting the local community while delivering a facility that contributes positively to the surrounding environment.
