VINCI Building Appointed to Deliver £100M Eden Project Morecambe

A major milestone has been reached for the long-awaited Eden Project Morecambe, with VINCI Building confirmed as the main contractor for the £100m scheme.

The development, led by Eden Project in partnership with Lancaster City Council and Lancaster University, is widely seen as a key driver in the regeneration of the Lancashire coastal town.

🌊 Regeneration-led development

Located on the former Bubbles Leisure Complex and Superdome site along Morecambe’s promenade, the project is designed to act as a flagship visitor attraction and educational facility.

The scheme has undergone revisions in recent years to improve viability, with the current design reducing the overall built footprint while maintaining its ambition as a landmark destination.

🏗️ Programme and delivery

Construction is expected to begin before the end of 2026, with completion targeted for 2028.

An initial phase of works, including approximately 1.5 acres of landscaped gardens, is scheduled to be delivered earlier as part of the overall development programme.

The contract was procured via the North West Construction Hub, with VINCI Building understood to have been selected following a competitive process.

🏢 Design and project team

The scheme has been designed by Grimshaw Architects, known for delivering large-scale, complex projects across the UK and internationally.

Project and cost management services are being provided by Ridge.

📊 Sector momentum

The appointment marks another significant leisure-sector win for VINCI Building, following its recent success on the Marine Lake Events Centre in Southport.

More broadly, the project signals renewed momentum behind a scheme that has long been viewed as central to the economic and cultural regeneration of Morecambe.

With a contractor now in place, the development moves closer to delivery after years of planning, redesign, and funding challenges.
