Sisk has been appointed as main contractor to deliver a £42m redevelopment of Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, marking a key phase in the venue’s wider masterplan.
The project will see the transformation of the Raglan and Priory Stands into a new 3,200-seat stand, significantly enhancing spectator facilities. In addition, a new four-star hotel under the Radisson RED brand will be developed, featuring hospitality boxes and pitch-facing rooms.
The scheme is expected to provide a major economic boost to the local area, increasing Edgbaston’s contribution to the regional economy to around £40m annually, rising to over £70m during major events such as the The Ashes. The development will also create 134 new permanent jobs, adding to the existing workforce supported by the stadium.
The announcement coincides with the launch of Open Doors 2026, an initiative led by Build UK that offers behind-the-scenes access to construction sites across the UK. Around 240 sites are taking part this year, including Edgbaston, giving visitors insight into the wide range of careers available in the construction industry.
With the sector requiring approximately 48,000 new workers annually to meet demand, initiatives such as Open Doors play a key role in attracting new talent. Feedback from 2025 indicated that 88% of attendees were more likely to consider a career in construction after visiting a site.
Construction at Edgbaston is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2027 Ashes, ensuring the upgraded stadium is ready to host one of cricket’s most high-profile events.
