New Construction Training Pathways Launched for Young People in Hounslow

Hounslow Council has launched a new initiative aimed at helping young people access careers in construction, offering structured training and direct pathways into employment.

The programme is targeted at 16–18-year-olds who are not currently in education, employment or training (NEET), with a focus on supporting those with additional needs, including individuals with SEND, care leavers and those involved in the Youth Justice System.

Building Skills for the Future

Delivered in partnership with MIT Skills, the course will run for 12 to 17 weeks, providing a mix of classroom learning and practical training.

Participants will gain:

  • Hands-on experience in core trade skills such as carpentry and plumbing

  • Functional skills in English and maths

  • Support towards achieving a CSCS card

  • Insight into real construction site operations through workshops and visits

Further Opportunities for 19–24-Year-Olds

In addition, Work Hounslow has partnered with major developers including Bouygues UK and Ballymore to deliver a second programme for 19–24-year-olds.

This shorter 6–8 week course offers:

  • Industry-recognised qualifications including the CSCS Green Card

  • Level 1 Health & Safety training

  • Access to work placements and job interviews with developers

Supporting Local Talent

With construction demand continuing to grow across London, the initiative aims to bridge the skills gap while creating real opportunities for young people to enter the industry.

Applications for the 16–18 programme close on 27 March, with the course starting on 30 March.
