The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has outlined plans for a major Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) programme, with an estimated total value of up to £85m including VAT.
The scheme, currently at pipeline stage, will cover the build, operation and maintenance of EV charging infrastructure across multiple UK sites, which are yet to be confirmed.
The opportunity is expected to be delivered via a framework agreement, creating long-term opportunities for contractors and the wider supply chain involved in civil engineering, infrastructure delivery and energy solutions.
The contract is anticipated to run from April 2027 to April 2030, with a potential extension to April 2031.
While full details are yet to be released, the programme falls under civil engineering works and is expected to attract interest from a broad range of contractors, including SMEs, which have been highlighted as suitable participants.
A formal tender notice is expected to be published in May 2026, with further details to follow as the opportunity progresses.
This pipeline notice signals a significant upcoming investment in EV infrastructure, aligned with the UK’s wider push towards sustainable transport and decarbonisation. See more below.
