Wrexham AFC has progressed its £70m redevelopment of the Racecourse Ground, with new designs unveiled for the club’s expanded Kop Stand, due for completion ahead of the 2027/28 season.
The latest plans, designed by global sports architecture firm Populous, outline a two-tier stand that will significantly increase stadium capacity to more than 18,000.
The new Kop Stand alone is expected to accommodate around 7,750 supporters, adding more than 2,000 seats compared with earlier proposals. It will include safe-standing areas, hospitality suites and accessible seating provision as part of the wider stadium upgrade.
The design also draws on local heritage, with a red brick façade inspired by traditional Ruabon brickwork, alongside cultural and historical tributes including a memorial to the 1934 Gresford Colliery disaster and a statue planned in honour of club legend Joey Jones.
The redevelopment is being supported by funding from the Welsh Government as part of wider improvements required to meet UEFA Category 4 stadium standards.
Construction work on the wider Racecourse Ground redevelopment began in 2025, with the revised opening timeline now targeting the start of the 2027/28 season.
The project forms part of Wrexham AFC’s continued rise through the English football pyramid in recent years, alongside wider investment into infrastructure and fan experience.
