The UK construction and sustainability sector is set to benefit from a major development in domestic recycling infrastructure. Eurokey, part of the international circular economy specialist Reconomy, is opening a £20m, 138,000 sq. ft bespoke plastic recycling facility in Corby, Northamptonshire.
Once operational, the facility will rank among the largest dedicated plastic recycling plants in the UK, providing supermarkets, retailers, and grocers with a fully closed-loop solution for plastic waste. Plastic materials, pre-sorted at Eurokey’s nearby Kettering facility, will be transformed into recycled pellets ready for use in new packaging, reducing the UK’s reliance on exported plastic waste.
This initiative addresses a long-standing gap in domestic recycling capacity. Currently, much of the UK’s plastic is sent abroad due to limited local processing infrastructure. By creating a fully UK-based recycling loop, Eurokey’s new facility will help clients achieve sustainability targets while lowering transportation costs, carbon emissions, and dependence on virgin plastics.
Construction of the site is nearly complete, with full operations expected in the second half of 2026. At capacity, the plant will process 38,000 tonnes of plastic per year and generate over 30 local jobs, providing both environmental and economic benefits to the region.
