O’Brien Contractors has been awarded a 40-week contract to deliver one of the UK’s first large-scale electric HGV charging facilities at Magna Park, Lutterworth. The 30,000m² development is being delivered on behalf of Keoma Energy, with works now underway and completion scheduled for Autumn 2026.

The scheme marks a significant step in supporting the transition to net zero by enabling greater adoption of electric HGV fleets across the logistics sector.

O’Brien Contractors will carry out the full civil engineering, infrastructure and building works package. Initial enabling works include earthworks, drainage and ducting to prepare the site for future phases. The project also incorporates a new Section 278 junction and road widening works to improve access and traffic flow.

Alongside the electric charging infrastructure, the facility will feature HGV washing zones and dedicated amenity buildings, including canteen and shower facilities to enhance driver welfare and improve road safety.

Supporting infrastructure forms a substantial part of the project scope, including drainage systems, pumping mains and approximately 20km of cable ducting. High-specification technology, security and IT systems will allow drivers to access charging units via contactless devices.

The scheme will be completed with comprehensive landscaping works, including pedestrian pathways, lighting, road markings and tree planting, creating an accessible and well-integrated environment.

Magna Park, one of Europe’s largest distribution parks, already spans more than 13 million sq ft of logistics space. The addition of large-scale HGV charging infrastructure reflects growing demand for electric fleet solutions and futureproofed logistics networks.
