Robertson Construction North East has been appointed to deliver a landmark cinema and leisure development in Ashington, marking another significant step forward in the town’s wider regeneration plans.
The project, located at Portland Park, forms part of a £36m town centre transformation led by Northumberland County Council and development partner Advance Northumberland.
The design and build scheme will include a new five-screen cinema, alongside restaurant units and a family-focused leisure space, aimed at enhancing the town’s evening and weekend economy.
Construction is expected to commence shortly following planning approval, with the development set to play a key role in increasing footfall and strengthening Ashington’s position as a destination for leisure and social activity.
The cinema will be operated by REEL Cinemas and is expected to attract up to 157,000 visitors annually, making it a major draw for both local residents and the surrounding area.
The project has been procured via the Procure Partnerships Framework and is supported by funding from central government alongside local investment.
As part of a wider regeneration programme, the scheme complements ongoing infrastructure improvements across Ashington, including transport upgrades and education facilities — reinforcing long-term growth and investment in the region.
With work set to begin on site, the development represents another positive example of public and private sector collaboration delivering meaningful community impact through construction.
