MANCHESTER UNITED SECURES KEY LAND FOR £2BN, 100,000-SEAT STADIUM DEVELOPMENT

Manchester United has secured the majority of the land required to deliver its proposed £2bn, 100,000-capacity stadium, marking a significant milestone in one of the UK’s most ambitious regeneration projects.

The club has acquired a 25-acre site immediately behind the Stretford End at Old Trafford, providing sufficient space for the construction of what would become the largest football stadium in the United Kingdom.

The proposed stadium, currently referred to as “New Trafford”, will be located approximately 350 metres from the existing Old Trafford stadium, allowing Manchester United to continue playing at its current home throughout the construction programme.

Development Details

Designed by Foster + Partners, the proposed stadium will feature a striking umbrella-style roof structure designed to harvest solar energy and rainwater. Three prominent masts will rise above the stadium, creating a landmark structure visible from up to 40km away.

The stadium forms the centrepiece of a wider regeneration programme for the Old Trafford area, with additional plans expected to include residential development, public realm improvements and enhanced transport infrastructure.

A draft masterplan for the wider regeneration scheme is due to be unveiled on 9 July and is expected to provide further details on housing delivery, transport upgrades and infrastructure improvements.
