Great British Energy Launches £1.08bn Procurement for SMR Delivery Partner

Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N) has launched a major procurement to appoint a delivery partner for its Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme, with the contract carrying an estimated value of up to £1.08bn.

The successful partner will provide technical, commercial and project management expertise to support the planning, development and delivery of the UK’s emerging SMR programme over a contract expected to run for up to 14 years.

According to the procurement documents, the agreement has been designed to support future expansion of the programme, with additional SMR deployments potentially added over the life of the contract. GBE-N has stressed that the £1.08bn value represents the maximum potential spend rather than a guaranteed commitment.

The appointment will be delivered through an Incentivised Collaboration Agreement (ICA), aligning contractor performance with key project milestones, risk management objectives and value-for-money outcomes.

The procurement marks another significant milestone in the UK’s nuclear ambitions, with Small Modular Reactors expected to play a key role in delivering low-carbon electricity generation and supporting long-term energy security.
